|  | Brian Wilson and Sgt. Pepper Reaction

It has been said that Brian Wilson was competing with the Beatles in terms of who could write better songs. When Brian heard the Sgt. Pepper Album it was said he was so blown away with the music that he stopped writing and faded off into obscurity. In other he could not compete with that.
This notion is ridiculous to me as the guy was a high school quarterback, baseball and track athlete. He was very competitive and not likely to back down from a challenge.
What I think is that Wilson heard Sgt. Pepper and realized Paul was dead and just went into a state of shock and depression. Then the drugs and the eating disorders emerged as he was trying to cope with everything.
What do you think about this idea?

Well, here's what I think since I'm PIA: Whle working on The album Pet Sounds(which was going to be the best rock album of all time), Sgt. Pepper was released and once Brian heard it, he told his fellow bandmates in The Beach Boys, "The best album inthe world has already been made! This will just look like a poor copy," So he stopped work on Pet Sounds and then I guess he needed a break from music.

Pet Sounds was released before Sgt. Pepper. You're probably thinking of Smile, which Brian was working on at the time of his breakdown.

One PID documentary suggests The Beatles were about to call their album Smile at the time of Paul's demise.
It wasn't Pepper that brought Brian's breakdown but bad experiences with LSD that gave him nightmare trips.
McCartney was a big fan of Brian's and attended his finished Smile
in 2005. The other connection is in 1966 Brian constantly wore a
fireman's helmet in the recording studio and in films, and now Paul goes under that name, but claims it from the line in Penny Lane.
