It's been said before, but it's worth bearing in mind that the Beetle's plate on Abbey Rd actually reads LMW 281 F. There's definitely no "I" in it. I know this doesn't fit with common beliefs and speculation surrounding its interpretation, but even if you believe PID, surely you'd be better trying to interpret the registration plate as it's printed, and not as you'd like it to be?

IMO, the WA Volkswagen is the key. It has a 28, not 281 That 28 number is by no means a coincidence. John was a clever guy, and the fact that you see again the number 28 in Abbey Road cover, and that the next character CAN BE a 1 or a I, that is, it[s a character that can be read both ways (it[s not clearly and I, but neither is clearly a 1), leads you to conclude that it has to be read as a I The same thing happens with the dobule message in the drumskin in Sgt Peppers.

281 isn't a problem because it LOOKS so much like an I. He worked with what was available.

There is one thing for sure: that plate was added on during the photo post-processing.

I have seen footage from the era, and the occasional licence plate. All the British plates shown were the long rectangular type with black on white lettering. I remember when I was a kid, if you got a British import here in the US, you had to finangle the plate on somehow, because the holder was designed for the British dimensions. Were there any square plates with black lettering on a yellow background at the time? Seems that if this were odd it would be commented on, right? Edit: To show a typical British plate: Could be a coincidence, but "111C"? (1+1+1 =3, or "C" being the third letter...) And in case that's a clue (John's style I would think) what about "FJB"? http://*banned link*/Shoebox/JohnRolls.jpg[/img]

Is that a UFO above the Rolls? Sure looks like it!

Ok Paulin and why Faul put 58 IF in the Paul is Live cover? Eh...surely as a tongue in cheek reference. You don't think it was ...a clue? Given that McCartney was/would have been 27 at the time Abbey Rd was released, if this was a clue, why wasn't it an accurate one? Bit of an oversight, surely?

Byrds - holy sh1t, I think you're right Palin, it was definitely tongue in cheek. Bill has been leaving clues all along. I like to think it's because deep down inside he has a smidgeon of guilt over stepping into someone else's life. Or, he might just be a smug, conceited git

I thought he was in Kenya, but I don't know the relationship or mileage Tanzania and Kenya. He would have gotten around somewhat descretely because of his healing plastic surgery.

Very good eye, Byrd. I would have to agree with you. I never really looked at the sky as the psycadelic Rolls is what catches the eye, as it was meant to.

www.worldlicenseplates.com/hp.htmlThe plate on Abbey Road's VW : The OFFICIAL British plate format: Font doesn't match AT ALL. And there is NO font/format/colours conbination about plates ALL AROUND THE WORLD that matches with the Abbey Road's plate. The result is: that on the Abbey Road Album front cover is a FAKE plate. "Here's another clue for you all"DEFINITELY. P.S. The more similiar as font format and colour is from Kenya: ..but the format still don't match So... was he filming from an open top of a VolksWagen there? Lost McCartney William (on) 28 Is Found ... then?

The result is: that on the Abbey Road Album front cover is a FAKE plate. Exactly, thanks BeatlePaul. It was said at the time something to the effect that the car "just happened to be parked there". And someone was driving around with a plate that would get him pulled over by the police after 2 minutes on the road?? It's odd, no one thought to address something so obvious as a plate that had no business being on a random car parked on the street. More misdirection, ask a magician how it's done.

Whoa! Weren't all VW Beetle no. plates like that? they couldnt fit a rectangular one on. Hmm.. you're probably right. A special plate for a specific make is not something I've ever heard of/seen here in the US.

Just out of curiousity...what does a French number plate look like?

Starting with "K" this one should be from Kenya too. Font and colours don't match with that on Abeey Road's VW.

I just found out a clue, I think.
I was watching the Disney movie 'The Parent Trap' and at about 39 mins, Here Comes The Sun (from the Abbey Road album) (a cover, written by George) plays. At 40 mins, however, we see Abbey Road with... *drums* THE EXACT SAME VW BEETLE WITH THE LMW 28IF LICENSE PLATE!
I wonder where Disney got that...

A film about doubles... was this the original or one of the remakes?
And, Ringo did "Here Comes the Sun" on one of his solo albums?

My mistake, Here Comes The Sun was written by George. And yes, a movie about doubles, you might be on to something there...
