You probably know most of these but I thought I'd post them anways....
Did you know that...
-Ringo was the narrator for Thomas the Tank Engine
-John Lennon wanted Jesus on the cover of Sgt Pepper but this was just after the "We are bigger than Jesus" statement so the producers thought better of it.
-The photo shoot for Sgt. Pepper took three hours all up including the cover and the other shots
-The Bee Sharps episode of the Simpsons was based on the real life ups and downs of the Beatles (interesting!)
-The lyrics from the song "A day in the life" from Sgt. Pepper was what John found in the newspaper a couple of days before
-Sgt Pepper took 129 days to record and took an all up of 700 hours, Please Please Me, The Beatles very first album, took only 585 minutes!
-For the ten minutes thay were on the Ed Sullivan Show not one single crime was reported
-The song "Yesterday" has been reproduced by some 200 odd artists, coincedently the Beatles were rather embarrassed by the song thinking it didn't propaly represent their hard rock image.
-Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds was banned from the BBC because they thought that it was encouraging people to take drugs (abbreviated it is LSD) although John always maintained that it was inspired by a painting by his son Julian
-'A Day In The Life' was also banned form the BBC because it included the line 'I'd love to turn you on' and contained a drug reference ("found my way upstairs and had a smoke, and somebody spoke and I went into a dream")
- In Paul's/Faul's song about the troubles in the group, "Let it Be," the line "mother Mary comes to me" is not a reference to the Virgin Mary, but Paul's own mother who was (obviously) called Mary.
-"Many people ask what are Beatles? Why Beatles? Ugh, Beatles, how did the name arrive? So we will tell you. It came in a vision -- a man appeared in a flaming pie and said unto them 'From this day on you are Beatles with an A'. Thank you, Mister Man, they said, thanking him." (John Lennon)
-Though the Beatles were still largely unknown in the U.S. in October 1963, Ed Sullivan got his first glimpse of Beatlemania on Halloween of that year. His plane at Heathrow Airport outside London was delayed due to hordes of screaming Beatles fans welcoming the boys back from an overseas concert. When he was notified about the cause of the delay, Ed Sullivan said, "Who the hell are the Beatles?" That experience prompted him to book them on his show in 1964. (The Beatles, for their part, had not previously heard of Ed Sullivan)
-Timothy Leary and Tommy Smothers did some of the background clapping on John's song, "Give Peace a Chance," recorded in a hotel in Montreal.
-Though she bought him his first guitar, John's Aunt Mimi discouraged him from a career in music, saying, according to John: "The guitar's all right as a hobby, but it won't earn you any money." Years later, John gave her a silver plaque with that quote engraved upon it.
If you have any more, please do post!
