Bravo, Ian. That had great feeling. I think of Paul being a great dessert and John being a bottle of the finest wine. Your opinion depends on which you treasure most.

To make amends, I really always dug "Come and Get it" which was given to Badfinger; it rocks and is the quintessenal pop #1 hit. There is a boot of the songs the Beatles gave away. When you listen to them you realize how much talent there was that they could give away so many fine tunes. Step Inside Love for Cilla Black is a great song too. And, if you compare Paul's demo of Come and Get It to Badfinger's, you know that the story that he told them to do it just like the demo is true.

Yep, there's no denying it, they were hot, prolific songwriters. Amazing. And, yes, the demo for come and get it was duplicated by rote, wisely, by Badfinger. But their own tune, 'Baby Blue' was successfully Beatleish, and a chart topper. Fast learners, them boys.

Is it just me or do these songs sound really simalar? Sing the following out loud: It's Only Love:"I get high when I see you go by....butterflies" Mr. Kite: "For the Benefit of Mr. Kite, there will be a show tonight on trampoline"...."butterflies" You see? Doesn't the word "butterflies" fit right in to Mr. Kite? It's almost like they're the same song! Laughing. I thought this was an interesting thread and looked at what started it. What is it about the butterflies? Those words aren't in those songs. I don't understand and it's funny but it turned into an interesting thread

Fixing,
It's Only Love Lyrics: "I get high when I see you go by, my oh my, when you sigh, my, my inside just dries, butterflies, why am I so shy when I'm beside you?"
If you know the tune, sing the lyrics that are in bold. Now sing this:
Mr. Kite lyrics: "For the Benefit of Mr. Kite, there will be a show tonight on trampoline".....(from It's Only Love)"Butterflies"
You see? I added in that Butterflies part to Mr. Kite to show how it fits in so naturally? I'm just saying these these are practically the same song (in that part).

Or how about "Step Inside Love," also for Cilla. Really nice tune and Elvis does a great version of it on a B-side. And isn't it curious that they would be giving away Paul songs if there weren't going to be anymore? Sorry, couldn't resist *smile* Because those songs were given away before Paul died.

LOL, I hear ya! Ever consider...just NOT LISTENING? Also, you are correct, the four members were the ultimate magic. None of them matched the genius in their solo careers. The sum was greater than the parts , thats for sure ! I myself , ignored the Beatles solo careers . I think I bought IMAGINE and the Faul album that had " With a Little Luck " - thats about IT ! Funny thing is , I drifted away from the Beatles about the time James Paul died . Was it a 13 year old's attention span ? Or did I sense something wrong ? Probally both ! By high school I was mainly into Iron Butterfly and the Doors and Strawberry Alarm Clock , of all people . SAC had shown promise with " Incense" but never followed up. I found out later the lead singer in that song was'nt even in the band - just a friend ! I remember feeling guilty when John died , because I had quit the Beatles and had been a kansas diehard for years .

I love me some Kansas.Terrific band.
And (should I admit this) I really liked Foreigner. Some will have allegations of cheese. I care not. Sprinkle the parmesan.

They were from the same time period . I liked Styxx until they got so silly . Lead singers with high pitched voices were in vogue in the late 70's .

High note production is a topic in which I have always been fascinated. (I am a triple Taurus.)
Freddie Mercury--wow!unforgettable pipes Kenny Loggins---Wow Stevie Wonder--wow! lead singer for Air Supply (whats the name) met his keyboard player in a hotel once---we talked at length, he told me their lead singer(what is the name....) hits all those high tones in full voice. Wow. Meatloaf----fabulous raw sound REO Speedwagon lead guy--great---very sweet voice though Rod Stewart--raw and classic Gino Vanelli--more of a baritone--but what a machissmo tone, how damn musical that band was Lindsay Buckingham--good stuff Michael Jackson--castratti? how are these silky high, effortless tones possible? Sting---incomparable vocal ability-----he sings things that shouldn't be humanly possible Lead singer "Guess WHO" (Burton Cummings?) I totally dug his earthy sound David Gates---OK, OK, listening to Bread will give you hypoglycemia, but I'm sorry, that was a damn smooth and pretty voice Karen Carpenter----OK, OK, she wasn't a man, but same comment as above. Loved her. Cried many tears in 1983. Couldn't anyone have helped her? dear God. David Clayton Thomas-----a man who made high "C"s sound manly Peter Cetera----where does such agility and innate ease of production come from like this? Steve Perry-----in his heyday, vocal chords of STEEL. Hope he is doing better. Want him to win his battle.
