As posted in another thread, Billy Shepherd wrote articles for the Beatles Monthly Book, from n. 2 (september 1963) to n. 77 (december 1969). This is the "Tale of Four Beatles", the first articles he wrote. It's divided into 7 parts. PART 1

I think we can rule out this Billy Shepherd being our Faul. As others have brought up, according to a search of the boards, this was an alias used by British journalist Peter Jones while working on the magazine.

An odd "coincidence" having two Billy Shepherd's - three if you count the BeeGees music arranger. And how is the name spelt? "Shepherd" or "Sheppard"? The 1964 book spells it Shepherd but on ebay, that book is advertised under the spelling Sheppard. Are there two versions of the book?

the BeeGees music arranger.
I've lost the pic I had of this guy, but I'd like to see a aide-by-side with the GerogeMartin-looking guy from the "white album" poster.

TKIN! references to that clue. Billy (who) Shears was told by the Beatles. Billy Pepper Shepherd/Sheppard was a real singer.

An odd "coincidence" having two Billy Shepherd's One who knows a lot about The Beatles, let's say one who can write a story (a tale) about the four Beatles, and can sing a bit (if you practice long enough you can get the voice you like, believe me.) and can be transformed into a Beatle (Paul) is enough. Cause after all, Faul tells a lot about the early days of The Beatles, and even Paul's childhood (which wasn't his of course)

You mean the childhood that he has made up. I'm sure that he has blended aspects of his true childhood with things that he has found out about Paul's. I would guess that it's hard turnng your back on your entire past. Still, I wish he would stop re-writing Paul's life. It REALLY pisses me off everytime he opens his mouth & some fabricated bunch of BULL comes flying out !!!

McCartney wants to be a paperback writer By Jeannette Walls with Ashley Pearson MSNBC Updated: 5:53 p.m. ET March 17, 2004Look out, Madonna. advertisement (Faux) Paul McCartney is getting into the kiddie-book writing biz. And publishing sources say that McCartney — because of his rock-star status — could generate the sort of best-seller that Madonna did with “The English Roses.” McCartney is penning a children’s book called “High in the Clouds," about two squirrels and a frog who try to rescue animals endangered by urban development. It will be co-written by Philip Ardagh, and illustrated by Geoff Dunbar. “High in the Clouds” is being published in the U.K. by Faber and Faber, but no U.S. publisher has been announced, and one book world insider tells The Scoop: “This will be a hot property. Even if the book is awful, it will sell like hotcakes. Because he’s Paul McCartney, he’s almost guaranteed to get on all the talk shows to promote it, and what politically correct, baby boomer parents wouldn’t want their children — or their grandchildren — to read a book by a former Beatle?” From: www.msnbc.msn.com/id/4500372

Peter Jones himself admitted to being Billy Shepherd. He produced pay stubs, etc. He actually was the Billy Shepherd who wrote the articles, and don't try to tie him into being Faul either, he had a long and successful public career as a journalist.

I think I've seen this passing reference to this, and would like to see some more. What cites do you have? Does he claim to have been onboard since the first "Beatles Book"? When was he let go?etc.
I think its likely several people (Paul? John? Neil? Mal? etc.) were writing the Beatles Book articles under that byline as well.

Not convinced about Peter Jones' "admission."
He could have been very conveniently used to cover for the obvious oversight of having Billy's name all over stuff.
Producing fake documentation would be of no difficulty at all for these people. And it would make perfect sense to incorporate someone with a reputation to deflect suspicion.
If James Paul's father, brother and love went along with this game, so would Peter Jones. Probably under the guise of national pride or whatever.
And being incorporated into The Beatles' mythos is no small reward.
Not really familiar with Mr. Jones and his story (yet), but I wouldn't be surprised if he wasn't rewarded in some way for his participation.
Maybe with his life, right Hamlet?
JUST WANT TO SAY THANKS AND WOW, MICHELLE!
These reproductions are awesome. Thanks for posting them.

Johnny Dean (named as the editor) was actually Sean O'Mahony, editor of "Beat Instrumental," and the fan club secretaries Bettina Rose and Anne Collingham were pseudonyms (with various NEMS office girls hired to play the parts), so it's not hard to say that there was a legit reporter using an alias. I don't doubt others wrote under that byline also, but Peter Jones is one of the group who admitted to it.
