Interesting to me that a pall is a cloth used to cover a coffin. Found this on ebay... "This was in an antique trunk I purchased at an Estate Sale about 25 yrs. ago. I am sure it was quite old at that time as the trunk had belonged to an elderly couple killed in a car accident. From research that I did, this is a Coffin Pall which was used to cover a coffin at the Funeral. It is a sheer black soft, flowing fabric with delicate, intricate needlework and fringe completely around it..........ends are curved to lie smoothly around coffin. The needwork around edge measures 12 inches long. Entire cloth measures 72 inches long and 40 inches wide. These measurements do not include the 12 inches of decorative work around edges. This is definitely a unique piece of history. Its overall condition is good considering its age. There are some tiny holes and a few places where the dye has faded which I attempt to show in photos. The tiny holes show when held up to the light."
