The other day I was listening to 'I am the Walrus'. A couple of the lyrics in that song really struck me as being relevant to PID.
In the part where John sings:
Sitting in an English garden waiting for the sun If the sun don't come You get a tan from standing in the English rain
I took to be talking about Paul. The sun represents Paul, and the rain represents Faul. Paul is the sun because he represents the part of the bands career that was fun, and lighthearted. Faul is the rain that came after the death of Paul. And the lyrics all put together is John saying that they are waiting for Paul to bring the band back to where it was, but since the sun isn't coming back (i.e. death), they get the same effect with having Faul. No one notices the difference. Which is sorta sad to think about it.
I'm not sure if this has been brought to attention before. I was searching the threads for previous mention of this song, but there were just so many, I figured that I would just go ahead and post this.

i'd love to have a breakdown of all the little spoken bits in that song. i think the first edition [mono] single would be a good place to start.
please listen to the couple of seconds immediately after the last "goo goo goo joob", as there is a male voice saying something and a much less audible [it sounds like an electronic effect] sound byte that i think has great importance. the last time i heard it i remarked to myself it could have been paul, in a line spoken by him during a shakespeare skit the beatles did a couple of years earlier.

That's a very deep interpretation AuroraLucy. I had always just taken the words at their surface meaning:
"Sitting in an English garden waiting for the sun If the sun don't come You get a tan from standing in the English rain"
It just seemed to be a funny comment about England's air pollution problems. Maybe PlasticPaul can help with this one. Hey PlasticPaul, can you still get a tan from standing in the English rain?

Not to my knowledge byrds.
Regardless of lucy's suggestion (which i think is a good interpretation), I think it's basically saying during English summers there's still a lot of rain kinda observation comedy. Often you get sweltering days, then during the afternoon come rain showers due to convectional cloud etc.
Though now I think about it, could it be pointing out Faul's appearance. In some photo's he looks kinda swarthy, John could be saying "how would he get that from the British climate?"
Just a thought.
PS I'm liking the fact that this place seems to be getting going a little bit more over recent weeks!
