This is directed to everyone who is interested in music. There's no subject heading for music itself. Just Lyrics & Album covers... I have a bootleg mpg. of James Paul practicing the song Yesterday... What makes it VERY interesting, is that he is speaking to his mates about notes & chords, as they synchronize themselves to play the song... Andrew, I know you can use this... You're a musician. You can tell the difference between the key that Faul plays Yesterday in & the key that Paul did. Now you have proof, because he's instructing them what key to play the song in !!! I would be more than happy to send it to whomever wants to hear it... The only thing is, alot of these music files are too large to e-mail as they are. Does anyone know how to get around this For those interested this is what Paul says - " A little B & F for you "... Yesterday ... while strumming... " I'm in G, put a little B & F, it goes ... " " A minor, to A 7, to D minor... I hope this helps us to get that Bastard, Faul !!!! Love to everyone.... Chris

I had this version awhile back, but deleted it for some reason. He actually says "It'll be in F for you", speaking probably to George playing rythm guitar. Paul's guitar is actually tuned two notes down, which is why he's in G while the others are in F. Presumably, Paul originally wrote the guitar part in G, but realized that this was too high to hit the highest notes in the song! This IS important, since only a few years later Faul was hitting notes MUCH higher than this on a regular basis.
In fact, the entire song "Maybe I'm Amazed" is sung above the highest note in "Yesterday"! (There has been discussion before that maybe Faul was LOWER than Paul, as he couldn't hit the high notes during a live television performance of Yesterday, but now I think this had more to do with his advanced age at the time.)
You know, I never considered this. We should make a list of the keys that all of Paul and Faul's songs are played and sung in. I bet you'd see a distict change after 1966. There is a line in the song "Baby You're a Rich Man" which says "Tuned to A, Natural E, happy to be that way. Now that you've found another key, what are you going to play?" If applied to Paul and Faul's voices, this would mean that the center of Faul's vocal range was somewhere around high E, whereas Paul's was probably around middle A, a difference of 7 half-steps or 3 whole-steps. Quite a difference. Don't forget how nasally Faul's voice used to sound when he imitated Paul. It still does a bit. I suspect his speaking voice is naturally much higher.
Another interesting point is that Faul was supposedly a heavy smoker during this period like Paul. I know from personal experience that heavy use of both pot and tobacco tends to cut the highest few notes off of a person's vocal range, and yet Faul had to be smoking more pot than Paul ever did, and just as many cigarrettes.
You know what would be interesting? Let's see if we can find out what was the highest and lowest note that Paul ever hit on record, and the highest and lowest that Faaul ever hit. I bet there is a drastic difference! Great post Chris!

Andrew - I don't even know how to say this. Since joining the message board I've been feeling inspired by Paul. You know Almost like he's talking to me, pointing things out... After all, he's the person this whole site is about...He has the biggest stake in this... He wants us to get to & expose, the TRUTH... When you get the chance, do exactly what you just described to me. Somehow I KNEW that message was meant for you. Now, you have to act on it... Great reply, Andrew Luv yah, hon... Chris

Since the first time I came to this site, I haven't been able to look at the Beatles music the same. I was never really impressed with Faul's music after he left the Beatles broke up. Found his music to be mostly trash/garbage. Only cared for a few songs.
Even though I have bought 4 of his albums, I only like a couple songs on each. Now I know why. Thought it was Paul's music I was listening to but this explains a whole helluvalot.

You're not alone. The same exact thing happened to me. I never could understand what happened to him. To be totally honest, I blamed Linda. I thought that marrying her sapped him of his genius...What did I know, I was just a kid... Love to all... Chris

My, oh my. Why is it always the poor wife who's blamed? I guess it couldn't have anything to do with the fact he got older and matured? Maybe his wife and children became the #1 priority above music. He has the right to a personal life. It's unfair to say, "You must make beautiful music for us until the day you die! MUWHAHA!".

Mrs. Redford - that's all true. Like I said, I was just a child & he was my 1st love. I resented Linda for taking him away from us. At the time, I didn't realize that he wasn't even the REAL Paul McCartney. That the reason his work was so boring ( for the most part. There are usually one or two songs on each album that I like ) was because he's just doing his best. To be the best Paul McCartney he could be. Since he wasn't born a musical genius, it must've been hell for him. To have to live up to everything that The Beatles ( & even alot of the Beatles stuff ) did, is a very hard act to follow... Love to all... Chris

I have the Anthology 2 CD. During 'Yesterday' Paul does say "It'll be in F, for you... I'm in G, but it'll be in F, it goes A minor to A seventh to D minor."

Yes that's what he said there is just a change of key in the song, from G to F. Nothing more

And what key does Faul sing it in. I never did like how Faul sings 'Yesterday'. If you notice everytime he sings it he does not sing it completely. He condenses it! What's up with that.

*deep breath* Sorry! I got a little carried away there.... I was just on another forum where every person yells at each other, lol. You must be on one of those political forums . If my political forum came on THIS board they would be calling us "liberals " . Never mind that has nothing to do with the topic. And I'm about as liberal as John Wesley Hardin . I have not visited them since I came here . I have several probally angry messages waiting for me , but they can wait. I'll go ream those lizard-brains out this week . Or the next !

For thoses who know and care, the changes to "yesterday", in the key of "F" major, are: verse--play twice F // em7 (11) A7 // Dm Dm7/C // Bb C7//
Fsus F C/E // Dm G7// Bb F// (a seven bar phrase!)
I think he is saying "e minor" before the A7, as a secondary dominant chord. (V of major III in F major). The accent, the shifted vowel must just sound like "aye" but those of us who play know the chord is e-minor--seven-eleven, a very nice change indeed!Liverpool has strange vowels.............Say, does current Paul do the Liverpool vowels?

Excellent, yep, that's it
It took me a while before I realised you were including the vocal line into your analysis. With the Em7 (11) chord I thought you were talking about the guitar voicing, which left me puzzled for a while. Even with the guitar detuned and the Em7 chord grabbed as a F#m7 chord I couldn't find this back in the song.
Anyway, maybe this is getting to specific.
