A few more clues for you all. Clue #1 On the front cover of A Collection of Beatles Oldies But Goldies!, pictured here... ...there are some letters that appear in the upper left quadrant of the painting, to the right of the big car and above the right hand, cuff and sleeve of the central character image. They are clear on my Japanese pressing of the vinyl lp cover (albeit somewhat obscured, especially the third set of letters), but perhaps unclear in other editions. The words that appear are... TO THE ORIGI Should that be read as "(Dedicated) TO THE ORIGI(NAL Paul McCartney)"? Clue #2 On the back cover of the same album, Faul (at least it looks like Faul to me) is the only one dressed in a black, specifically. what appears to be a black kimono; the blackness being symbolic of death and sadness, a symbol later revisited in MMT with the three red flowers and one black one for Faul. Faul looks like he just appeared out of nowhere in a puff of blue smoke. None of the Beatles whose faces you can see in the picture are smiling in the photo. John is looking away from the camera towards Faul, which intentionally or unintentionally helps the photographer get a better shot of Faul. Clue #3 On the cover of the album Paul Is Live by Faul, he's walking across Abbey Road with a sheep dog. Sheep dog, eh? As in a sheep herding dog, eh? As in Shepherd, eh? As in William Shepherd, eh? Well, maybe that last one was too much of a stretch.

Clue #1 amazing. As for the image on the back, looks like a John double to me.

It just occurred to me that I posted the above to the wrong board. I'm going to the Clues Board now and post a link here with the same title.
Thanks, blokes, for the feedback on my post. I'm glad, byrdsmaniac, you find clue #1 "amazing". I think, if I can, I'll put something like it into my sig-file.

I can't make out who they are really apart from Paul. Apparently John is facing away, yeah i'll go with that but the other two don't look right at all to me.
Sorry if i'm being dumb!

Is that Paul, or Faul? It looks like Faul to me. As for the others, that looks like Ringo, not Fingo to me, but I'm not sure because of the angle of his face. Fingo's nose is larger and wider than Ringo's nose, and Ringo's nose has a unique shape. I'm not sure about the remaining two lads in the picture. If I could see the space between George/Feorge's eyebrows I think I could tell if it was Georgie or Feorgie.

Do you mean the guy on the right? Yes. Thought the one on the right was George... btw he doesn't look like him.

Thought the one on the right was George... btw he doesn't look like him. On some editions the photograph is obverse and others it is reverse. With my Japanese pressing, John (or Fohn) is on the right. On the edition represented by the image included here in this thread, George (or Feorge) is on the right. [moot question deleted]

I always thought that there were few references to Paul's dog Martha (?) in a few songs/videos - "Martha, my dear" and in the video for "Free as a Bird"

I've suddenly realised that the two guys on the right hand side don't look enough like any member of the Beatles for my liking.
I honestly can't tell if that is actually George or Ringo, add to that the fact that we can't see John's face or JPM properly, I think we have a case for the whole lot not being the original Beatles.
I normally hate this kind of speculation but "Oldies" does seem to have a lot of PID related clues on the cover so...

i can't see anything in that tiny pic to begin with >:-( edit: I found a higher res copy hereIf you look closely at the part that says "to the original" or something to that effect - it's clear that "to" is part of the word "tonight" and that it's on a poster on the wall in the picture - an advertisement for some band more to come edit again: for anyone who wants to see a better pic of the backlast edit, I promise: IMO, if clues exist, there are none on this cover - compilation albums are often the work of the record companies directly and usually just slap together some odd photo or unrelated artwork to the music (most notoriously back then) - for one thing if this coverup is the work of the band why would the label hide clues? don't forget, when the labels do use photos to put out something without the band's consent it's usually a file photo (as is the case of "Beatles VI" and "Something New" and "The Beatles Second Album" - don't quote me on that but that's just off the top of my head...)

this picture is from this awesome site: www.leprogres.fr/photos/ johnny-hallyday/1.html is this the car from the oldies album? Really a GREAT find. Maybe Paul had an appointment in France near Nice with Johnny Halliday for a challenge ( old cars race? -or marathon a la James Dean's Rebel Without a Cause). Maybe after Sylvie they both were fallen in love with Marisa... Maybe "Happiness Was A Warm Gun"... Maybe... Surely Billy-Frian went France to take away Paul reduced as a fool ... Coming Soon : Halliday was replaced too...
