We are less than a month from JPM's 64th birthday. This song needs to be posted on the net NOW!!!!! Agree, I lost hope of ever tracking this one down ages ago, but I'll take another look-see. I read your post in the Sylvie thread, but I didn't see anyone mention this: WIKI: Perhaps the most beautiful of Samarkand’s sights is the “Tomb of the Living King". The complex is based on the grave of Qusam ibn Abbas, a cousin of the Prophet Muhammad, who brought Islam to this area. His shrine is one of the oldest buildings in Samarkand. According to legend, he is not dead, but only sleeping and his tomb draws thousands of pilgrims. The approach to the tomb is a vast necropolis built on the ruins of the ancient Sogdian city. The major tombs belong to Timur and Ulugh Beg’s extended family and favorites, and are covered in fantastic majolica tile work.Hmm, I'm only sleeping... It's also an anagram of "Dharma sank"

I found this tidbit on an online bio about Jimi Hendrix. Hendrix remained in England, and on the morning of 18 September 1970, was found dead in the basement apartment of the Samarkand Hotel, 22 Lansdowne Crescent, London. www.thetabworld.com/Jimi_Hendrix_biography.htmlThe RCA test record was printed in 1971 with the misterious song title discrepancy (label vs. sleeve) A few PID/PIR and Hendrix connections could be drawn from this seemingly minute discrepancy. BTW, I believe the record was likely distubuted to test and calibrate hi-end turntables. I have a similar record in my collection made by JBL ca. 1974 that was packaged with Thorens turntables.

Can you read Italian? You may likely be right about this, but it still seems to me that everything on the record was recorded @ RCA Rome.

I agree. It explains the lack of thanks or credit to EMI on the label and the funny variations of song title and spelling. I was just offering a different possibility of what the record might have been. Some said it might have been an acetate to show off studio capabilites etc. but the "anti-skate" track could only have been to help adjust the tone arm anti-skate of a precision turnatble. If this is the case, there should be more of these records out there, possibly in different languages.

Frere Jacques= Brother James... there was also Brother Paul song.. "Also spracht Zarathustra" became famous with Kubrick's "2001 a Space Odyssey" and, thinking of that movie, makes the word "Apollo" coming in my mind, dunno why..

The Hendrix sound is interesting. If this is something JPM & Sylvie (note French female voice) were involved in recording before they were killed...
Johnny Hallyday and Hendrix hooked up in Sept/Oct 66...

OK, I think I've got it. Stand back! I don't want to infect anyone. ;D (It's 7:20 AM, and I haven't had any coffee yet ) More to follow, but for the moment: It's the "MISTERy tour". That should set your wheels in motion! (What goes with "Mr."?) Mrs?

What about "Mr. E" Tour.
"Mr. E" could be "Mr. Epstein"
Maybe Brian (or his corpse) went on some sort of bizarre trip shortly before (or after) his death.

First off, welcome back Sun King. I eagerly await your submissions and will try my hardest to keep up! I found this on this site. www.planetmellotron.com/revm7.htmNova Solis (1972, 40.45) ***½/T Samarkhand the GoldenAlone War Games Nova Solis (a Suite) Theme Floating Take-Off Asteroids Earth Hyperspace: the Return Home Nova May I Remember Theme Current availability: Angel Air (UK) "Morgan were a British quartet consisting of most of the Love Affair (of Everlasting Love fame), with Tim Staffel, ex-Smile (whose other two members went on to achieve complete obscurity with some bunch called Queen). Named after keyboardist Morgan Fisher (later of Mott the Hoople), the music is, unsurprisingly, keyboard-dominated, although Staffel provides acoustic guitar in places, along with his excellent vocals. The music? Out-and-out prog, with an occasional dash of singer-songwriterness from Staffel. I think it's safe to say that there are both better and worse examples of the genre, although both Samarkhand The Golden and War Games stand out. Sadly, the side-long title suite doesn't, being a little too ordinary to succeed over its 20-minute length, not to mention the fact that its 'spaceman returns to a devastated Earth' concept has a lot in common with then-recent albums by both Nektar and (especially) Gracious!. Strangely, the band had to go to Italy to get a record deal (with RCA), and the album was recorded at a state-of-the-art studio in Rome,[/b] giving Fisher free reign with their impressive keyboard collection. Sadly, he only chose to use their Mellotron on one track, Samarkhand The Golden, with some brass and (possibly) strings, with most of the album's keyboard work concentrating on piano and multitracked synths. Morgan lasted long enough to record a second album, The Sleeper Wakes, but while I've no idea what it's like, I'm pretty sure it's 'Tron-free..." They were relatively obscure and in 1972 recorded a track called "Samarkhand The Golden" for RCA in their Rome studios. There would appear to be a lot here - or it could all be a coincdence - Is anyone here familiar with these artists? Could any of them have served as Beatle doubles? I feel that RCA was far more involved with the darkside of all of this than one would think.

Well, those are backwards drums after frere jacques scatting, but everything else there seems to be forwards. So, next question -- can a musician verify whether Samarkhan Mistery Tour features the Hendrix chord?

I thought you'd get a kick out of that. After receiving his payoff for playiung lead guitar on Sgt Pepper -- part of the royal scam -- Hendrix went straighjt to San Francisco to usher in the summer of love. THat may be a referent point for the Steely Dan song.

His friends were all aboard with James Paul McCartney and all his little plans and schemes to play the game "existence" 'til the end of the beginning.

I'm thinking JPM & Sylvie recorded a demo of this, and the track was "completed" after they died -- by Hallyday & Hendrix.

Paul agenda? It's feeling like "Paul McCartney" became a business entity, in the way that a corporation is legally defined as a person. The fact that he was a real person with real needs, gifted and good natured, was insignificant to financiers. I believe this kind of thing happens more often than we care to know. SunKing, is this close to correct?

And Ludwig I agree with your analysis.

Was Sylvie kidnapped in India? Was the Maharishi a Commonwealth agent?

Maharishi was a Commonwealth agent, but I doubt he was involved with Sylvie. His main job in the 60s was to babysit troubled young "stars."
John eg was "handled" by LSD, then the Maharishi, then Yoko. (Then Perdomo.)
