We think Ottawa but are not absolutely sure.
All You Need Is Love, the song that introduced Faul to the world live, begins with the French national anthem. French Canadian?

Are you suggesting that Faul is Quebecois? Ottawa is very close to Quebec.

Yep! John and Faul were once interviewed by a girl from a French magazine and, to everyone's surprised, Faul started speaking to her in fluent French. John looked on in horror and afterwards said "Never do that again".

The real Paul had at least some understanding of French. "Michelle".

As a matter of fact, the whole song is devoted to the fact that THESE ARE THE ONLY WORDS HE KNOWS IN FRENCH! He wants to win Michelle's love, but can say nothing more than "Sont des mots qui vont tres bien ensemble, tres bien ensemble" (French for "These are words which go very well together, very well together") Paul apparently asked a friend named Jane Vaughan to supply the translation of this phrase in French. www.iamthebeatles.com/article1222.html
