I grew up listening to the original Beatles. Then Sergeant Pepper came out and I was one of the ones who was amazed at how different Paul sounded. I finally decided that he must have rested his voice and perhaps had taken voice lessons.
Then in the late 60's we heard a group called "Badfinger". They sounded so much like the Beatles that we thought they had gotten back together. The singer sounded like Paul, and you could hear George's guitar as well. We thought that George, Paul and Ringo had gotten back togerther. I must admit that it took years to convince me otherwise.
This was an Apple group. They performed Paul's songs and they were managed by George. In fact, George played the guitar solo on one of their early hits. I always wondered why Apple would promote a group whose lead singer sounded so very much like Paul. It made no sense to me.
But now, with this PID theory, I can think of several obvious things:
1) this was one of the Paul impersonators. Apple wanted to pay him for his work and so they arranged to have his group get several top 10 hits.
2) This was one of the Paul impersonators. George came to like this man so he arranged to release some genuine Paul songs through this person (perhaps because he could sing them better than Faul).
3) Another big blatant clue: Consider the group's name. Also, consider how easy it was to temporarily make us think we were listening to the Beatles.
Maybe George was releasing some Paul songs that were incomplete - maybe Paul wrote the music and George provided some or all of the words.
By the way, I really like this forum. I visit almost every day. I am not totally convinced about Faul but I am very suspicious. Personally, I would like to believe that Paul died an easy death in an accident or something, and that the business interests took over at that point. First they found one or more voices and then they found a musician with a close-enough face. And the rest happened as we all suspect. Lots of extra deaths around this whole thing though (the lead singer in Badfinger is already dead -- suicide).
