1st post, Hi all. I've read a bit of this forum and haven't seen anything about this. Watching Anthology the first time I remember being almost annoyed by Paul's habitual use of the phrase "sort of." It's the same way people pepper their speaking with "like" and "you know" incessantly. Recently I discovered this at 60if.proboards21.com/index.cgi?action=search2. From the TV program "So Far Out It's Straight Down," filmed Jan. 18, 1967 PAUL: "I really wish the people that look sort of in anger at the 'weirdos,' at the happenings, at the psychedelic freak-out, would instead of just looking with anger-- just look with nothing; with no feeling; be unbiased about it. PAUL: "Even though everyone is sort ofgetting on very well in this society we've got, it's a bit too controlled, you know. PAUL: "What they're saying and what they're doing is, sort of...nothing strange about it. It's just dead straight. "So if you don't know anything about it, you can sort of trust that it's gonna be alright." Made me realize that Paul still has this habit. Any record of him using "sort of" a lot pre-67?

;D Fixingahole & Perplexed - That's great. I'd never heard of that before. I've read some of Paul's interviews. I don't remember hearing him say " sort of " like that. I have to listen to a DVD that I have of his interviews again. See if Paul did say that. I'll post it as soon as I know... It's always good to find other things to check out... Love to all... Chris ;D

:DI just watched Fun with the Fab Four. I saw at least 5 different interviews where Paul was questioned. Not once did he say, " sort of ". I noticed that he was careful what he said. He seemed to think before speaking. He did not blurt out stuff indiscriminately ( sp. ). I have friends that have different catch phrases. My one girlfriend is famous for saying, "yah know". Other people say, "like" about everything. Especially, here, on the East Coast. Does anyone know if, " sort of " is a typical Canadian catch phrase As we all know, it's hard to break yourself of these things, if they've become a habit... Actually, Paul says"right" alot. That's a pretty typical British catch phrase. I also noticed Monty Python using that. Well, that is that... Better go, my hubby needs me... Love to all... Chris
