What kind of site is this?

It's a personal site of someone who has done a lot of research into the history and genealogy of German and French Canadians in Nova Scotia.

This personal site (which has a graphical counter reading 18040 since 1997, for what that's worth) that FAUL enjoyed so much also has pages on the Huguenots' history from France to Canada, and a page pushing freemasonry. (The site owner is a mason.)

Now about the email address belonging to the person who signed "billy McCartney" in Sept. 2000.

If you run a whois on mpl.co.uk, you find that it is owned by MPL Communications, which seized three 'McCartney' fan websites in an arbitrated dispute that began in April 2001. MPL is named in the decision as "the owner of the registered trademark "PAUL McCARTNEY" in the United Kingdom and in the United States."

I thought that "Bill Sheppard" stuff is nonsense, I don't care for Canada, and I'd much rather he'd be scottish....I almost jumped out of my chair. Just sent Paul an email, I mentioned in it there are sites that believe he's dead, if I ever get a reply I'll let you know.

It is very strange that you got an error that the domain does not exist.

The domain name *does* exist. It is a matter pf public record the domain is owned by billy etc.'s company.

You might try emailing "info" or "webmaster" @ the domain. If it's active, one of those should get through.

I don't see any reason why an imposter would leave a phony message in September 2000 on an obscure personal site.

The imposter would have had to known of both Faul's Franch-Canadian heritage and his company's URL and wished to leave an extremely obscure clue.

The only good candidate for an imposter I can think of would be George Harrison.

But more likely, it was indeed FAUL.

Well, it pre-dates 60IF hitting the web, so if this guy wasn't "Paul," it would most likely mean that this practical joker knew of Bill Sheppard and family.

I would say looking into a last name associated with your life has implications. your presence at that site implies a certain level of interest. It does not, however necessarily say WHY.

But if a Parolee, Mr.Party #1 who is suspected of a shady contact with a certain "Andrew Futchinswaggerly", and who has been warned by a parole board to stay away from Mr. Futchinswaggerly, could be charged with violating parole if his parole officer finds 196 calls to Mr. Futchinswaggerly on his cell phone bill. The trail of where you have been can become prima facia evidence to the parole board. that is THEIR domain.

And to sign your name and include "Sir" in the title, if you are not one, could be taken as an offense in Britain. Of course, Mr. McCartney IS, as we know, bona fide knighted, and he is not on parole, and it turns out has had NO dealings with Andrew Futchinswaggerly------but all this said to point out that in some arenas who you post to and how you call yourself could become an issue.
I find Mr. Futchinswaggerly to be honest as the day is long.

Now, legally, in this case, it is NO issue. Mr. Mc. may post where he likes and use 'sir' every where, but for our interests, it CAN speak volumes, though none concerned with law. It addreses our proposals, which are within OUR domain. And all of which we should approach legally.

If you're referring to Paul rather than FAUL, note the McCartneys on that list all spring from 1860s Missouri.

But, it serves to remind us that concerning genealogical records, unless you have had time to thouroughly review and research a given family, in searching for one name, you MAY find the same needle in TWO haystacks.

And the barn is BIG.

But, there are credible family tree researchers, I believe. It costs a lot. And if anybody was concerned about this in 1967, we might see that the books may be "closed" or a dead end on some of these links, McCartney and "Sheppard."or Campbell---etc.

A personal "Holy Grail" for me would be finding evidence of an OPP officer named William Sheppard who either died or vanished in the autumn of 1966, but I feel perhaps the only day to do this would be to go to Ontario and search public libraries for days on end.

furthermore, anyone can have an e-mail name of ANYTHING. Proves nothing. Case in point: how many people here, past and present, have been inclined to call themselves 'James' and/or 'James Paul' etc. Multiply that by a worldwide fraction.....
