Does anyone know what made John obessed with the number 9? Of course it was a number in his life often, but does anyone know a single event that made him focus on it?

It was just a magical and mystical number for him, he just found it special in his mind, it was his number, rather like the "universal" lucky number being 7 - well John's number was 9. I don't think it related to any dates or events, he just found the number special. ;D

In the United States roads are numbered if they're more than a few miles long. (Route 66 for example). I just have to wonder if there's a "Route 9" in England that would be where the dastardly deed took place. I'll bet there is, and that it is. (You can call me Sherlock.)

"He was pre-occupied with the symbolism of the number nine: An avant-garde composition he recorded on the Beatles' "White Album" was "Revoltion No. 9". A solo recording of his was "Number 9 Dream", a term he gave to a state of enlightenment. He died at 11PM on December 8, 1980. In his native England, where it was five hours later, it was already December 9th" (from IMDB.com) www.geocities.com/SoHo/Veranda/4009/no9.html, information on John and 9 Plus there are many more websites with connections -ivory

Page 91, 'John Lennon:Whatever Gets You Through The Night" book:
'Numerology and the occult were among the fringe interests John had cultivated since the sixties. He fastened upon the number 9 as being especially important in his life.
He was born on 9 October (as was his second son, Sean), and lived at 9 Newcastle Road in Liverpool. Among his earliest songwriting efforts was 'One after 909.' He named his most adventurous Beatle track 'Revolution 9.' Even the Dakota building was on 72nd street (7+2=9).
John also once predicted he would die on the 9th day of the month, which came true due to the international time zones in England..it was indeed 12/9/80.
In the event, he was shot on 72nd street and declared dead at 11:07pm (numbers again adding up to nine), at the Roosevelt Hospital on 9th Avenue.
The date in New York of course was 12/8 But John's native time zone is five hours ahead in Liverpool. It was already morning. The morning of the 9th.

we don't use route numbers in britain and very few roads except for motorways have numbers ie M1, M6.. I can tell you though that i think the number is a personal referance. My father has a weird connection with the number 7, he can connect almost every major event in his life with that number so i can relate to the john's fasination with the number 9.

Wow, I had no idea that the number 9 had so much significance for John, through the number 9, he sort of predicted his own death....

6 is the number of the beasts- animals
7 is the number of mankind
8 is the number of the intermediaries -prophets,jesus,mohammed,buddha,etc.
9 is the DIVINE - GOD, NATURE, TRUTH
9 is also the last digit in the base 10 numerical system (starts at 0)
13 is the number of the ILLUMINATI - it is a so-called "bad luck" number and is removed from public places, no 13th floors anywhere, no room 13 (in hospitals, public buildings). it represents that their invisible eye is everywhere.

How ironic that the majority of self-proclaimed 'experts' here, didn't know SQUAT about even the rudimentary significance of the number 9 in John Lennon's life. For shame. Blind leading the blind!

Perhaps Lennon came to believe Paul's murder was connected to the Ninth Degree of Freemasonry.
