For the benefit of Mr. Kite There will be a show tonight on trampoline The Hendersons will all be there Late of Pablo Fanques Fair-what a scene Over men and horses hoops and garters Lastly through a hogshead of real fire! In this way Mr. K. will challenge the world! The celebrated Mr. K. Performs his feat on Saturday at Bishopsgate The Hendersons will dance and sing As Mr. Kite flys through the ring don't be late Messrs. K and H. assure the public Their production will be second to none And of course Henry The Horse dances the waltz! The band begins at ten to six When Mr. K. performs his tricks without a sound And Mr. H. will demonstrate Ten summersets he'll undertake on solid ground Having been some days in preparation A splendid time is guaranteed for all And tonight Mr. Kite is topping the bill.
Is Mr. K the KKK?
Lastly through a hogshead of real fire!
Is this talking about the religious sacrifice of fire?
In this way Mr. K. will challenge the world! The KKK talked in an interview about doing something to The Beatles that would make the world sit up and take notice - challenging the world!
without a sound - in secret.
ten to six - the kidnapping occurred around dusk.
at Bishopsgate - is this the area where the sacrifice was made /and/or where the bodies were found? I don't know much about English geography so someone help me here?
The argument against this being a clue is that John was not supposed to know it was the KKK until after Sgt. Pepper (second half of 67) but ... suppose he found out after the album cover had been done (pointing the finger at The Rolling Stones as the guilty party) but shortly before the album was released. So he insisted that this song go in at the last minute.
Supposedly Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields were originally slated for that album but were then taken out. Was it to put in more songs with clues? Like this one?

It came to me just today. I think the H.S. whispers to me so quietly I almost think it's myself. Do you have any further thoughts on the meaning?

Well, I have to say I've never quite thought of that song in that way. I had read that John wrote it , while reading an advertisment for a circus, in the newspaper. But then again, as we all know - JOHN WAS A MASTER OF THE DOUBLE ENTENDRE !!! Was that man brilliant, or what ;D Enuf said... Love to all... Chris

i was listening to that song a while ago and as i heard "Bishop's Gate" i thought it sounded like a good name for a cemetary. does anyone know of a cemetary called "Bishop's Gate" in either england or canada?

This might be a waste of time though, as Bishops Gate really was the name on the circus poster that John originally saw. It's seems unlikely that Paul would be there as well.

it might be but we won't know unless we try. we already know that John hid a lot of clues in music so why not this?...

Hold the phone!
back in 1987 for the 20th anniversery of Sgt. pepper they had several specials about psycadelic music and Sgt pepper on public television. On that particular 2 hour presentation they showed John standing in front of a poster for a circus that was put on by a Mr. Kite, and in the documentary they explained that John had written the song about a circus and that the hendersons were a generic family of what would be concidered the 40's/50's role model that was dying out just after rock and role and was killed off almost over night by the british invasion. The song has little or nothing to do with any conspiracy at all. Unles that whole program it self was bogus.
Then again I think it was when they talked about the rose guitar that many ppl refer to as Paul ?.

The song comes almost word for word from the poster. Mr. K is of course Mr. Kite. There are pictures of the poster all over the internet. See www.beatlesagain.com/bkite.html

There is a write up about the 'Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite' poster, including a picture of John next to it and a big scan here. Bishopsgate is a street in East London on the north side of the Thames nowhere near Abbey Road nor Savile Row. The first is near Liverpool Street station, the second is near St. John's Wood tube station and the other is near Picadilly Circus tube station. Here is a map of the tube.
