Just an idea I had when looking at the 1964 picture I posted and then while watching Faul sing Hey Jude on Anthology. I found that it wasn't easy to find pics of Faul showing the right side of his face, and the one of Paul I posted seems to be a rare find. I frame grabbed a scene from Hey Jude which suited the purpose, and used the picture of Paul for the same. The picture of Paul is directly from a 1964 magazine, FYI. This is hardly perfect for making comparisons a la Sun King's transitioning gifs, but it is interesting I think. Watching the close up of his face during the video, it's obvious Faul had a "heavy maintenance" day! (It still doesn't help, haha!) I'm adding this on at this later time, because well we know Anthology is suspect. I have a bootleg of Hey Jude, part of "The Beatles Companion", a VCD of videos. Due to its "non official" origins, I believe it's probably a more acurate representation. This is not the same frame as above, because the bootleg doesn't have it, it lingers on John and George a little longer. It's while faul is singing "Don't carry the world upon your shoulders..." This frame below is just a few seconds before. It seems they really smoothed things over *big time* on Anthology. The bootleg's quality is bad I know, but just look at the nose for example. It seems that on the new version they cut out a little bit of hair sticking out, but didn't cut out the shadow it cast.

...animation loading... please wait... I "tried" to match the outline profile (it was quite impossible). The rest of the faces are absolutely (using a LEGAL term) different. The nostril, eye position, jaw bone shape, ear position, nose lenght, front outline, chin shape change DRAMATICALLY. So, probably, MY OWN PROFILE matches more with James Paul's one. Camera angle (as ALREADY shown) simply doesn't change those features.

Awesome work. I always noticed, even when I thought Paul was alive, that where the bridge of the nose meets the forehead is higher on the 'earlier' Paul compared to the later Paul.

The picture of James Paul is just about "spot on" for a profile, you are looking directly at the side of his face just about. Again, pictures of the right side of his face are hard to find. I wonder why, maybe he thought it was his "bad" side? Too bad we don't have Faul's mug shot from his arrest in Japan.. You are right Sun King, it's makeup and plastic surgery, but now it's also rewriting (or redrawing) history. It's interesting how it goes: 1) Early on, they retouch Faul's photos, using the tedious and time consuming methods of the day. 2) As time goes on, Faul looks more and more like Paul, and besides, that foolish story about the switch is just a joke, right? The gradual process of changing Paul's old photos to match a more "correct" Faul begins. I suspect that this didn't really begin in earnest until all the computer graphics programs were born, when was Photoshop started, mid to late eighties perhaps? 3) So we have a period where Faul is accepted and unquestioned, so from that point on, his pictures are probably released undoctored. Besides, his handlers are allowing him to run around getting candid pictues taken all the time, but they aren't worried. Paul's pics continue to be doctored, especially as the graphics programs evolve. 4) This brings us to 1996 (?) when Anthology is released. By now, not only are there fantastic programs for altering photos, there are programs that make altering video a breeze. Some at this point the average consumer could buy for a modest sum. They had a problem with the old video of Faul before they released Anthology, *especially* Hey Jude! A lot of work went into fixing Faul, frame by frame, quite a job. I think the distance between the right eye and the bridge of the nose looks almost like it should, but that is pure fakery, special effects. With all the work, still, the jaw is wrong big time. I'm going to try to find two identical frames in the bootleg/official versions, to see to what extent this was done. I don't think it was expected in the days that video was made that we would have MTV, then VCR's, then DVD's for the TV and computer that allow frame grabs and frame by frame viewing. I'm always working! (stubborn capricorn) ;D

Faul's face left part was (is) always the worst. BTW Where is Faul's jawbone left part?

To follow up a bit on doing something with Hey Jude, I tried, but it is impossible! Here's the thing, the bootleg and the Anthology version don't match. Bootleg: camera will be shooting Faul from the right side. Anthology: reversed, camera is showing him from the front. These differences will be during the exact same part of the song. So they had two cameras, and they reversed the video from the bootleg all the way through the video! (especially when there was a part that would have been so *GOOD* to compare, darn!) Not always the case of course, just in the parts that I wanted to compare. It seems they knew the bootleg is out there, and they were guarding against people like me getting any ideas. This tells me that the bootleg is very likely not doctored beyond camera tricks and the makeup and plastic surgery of course. Profiles tell a lot, and his front wasn't as "bad" if the camera was straight on. Any profile shots that were somewhat dubious could be fixed in a snap with 1996 software. (but not in a video that somehow "escaped" and got passed around.

Thanks xpt626 Any ideas on what that is on his ear? ;D possibly Faulie has a nervous/selfcontrol habit of touching his earlobe. maybe it's just the spot he rubbed his make-up off?

I think it looks artificial..like a plaster or a perhaps an earphone? Or a prosthetic? A prosthetic, exactly! Already told in this forum.... Faul during ALL Beatles' films (MMT and other videos) ALWAYS wearing "rubber" ears to lower his "too high" ear position. During "Hey Jude" promo video it really seems Faul's wearing headphones...but they should be his...ears ;D ;D ;D Please take a look! It's REALLY funny! Where should be only a hole (inside the ear) we can see his flesh again!!! ;D ;D ;D

that is a rearranged pic, and all mirror printed as well. The original is in the CD booklet, all turned the other way, spaced different. They've stuck a shrunken version of Leenon down in fron of a giant Harrison here. Lennon looks one foot wide here.
And George's facial hair/beard? What is that? A chia-pet? A beard glue-on strip? Painted on?

Even if the shadow changed and there is a different camera angle each face component is STILL is its "original" position. Result: two reliable pictures

sun king, that means i can trust my ed sullivan's videos!!!!!! we can find great screencaptures from there..... ;D ;D Only about profiles. But, for the other things, please be careful! When the James Paul's both eyes are showed their distance is changed in an automatic way via software. When only an eye is showed they have no more reference to "morph" James Paul face.
