The fact that they just stopped, cold turkey, cause they wanted to just focus on recordings, makes absolutely no sense, whatsoever.
They lived to perform.
Some say that the heartbeat of the band is the bass drum; many others think that it is the bass guitar.
While taking nothing away from Ringo, because he is due a lot for his contributions, I say with the Beatles, it was the bass.
Without Paul, the band no longer had their Heartbeat.

Towards the end of the Amercian tour, The Beatles were certainly talking about not touring for a while because they couldn't hear themselves playing on stage and couldn't improve. However, I think, had Paul lived, after recording a technical breakthrough critically-aclaimed album in the likes of Sgt. Pepper but obviously not actually in that form as the Sgt. Pepper deception wouldn't be needed, they would be back on the road again I'm sure - maybe not back to America in the immmediate future because of all the trouble but a tour of their home country at the very least.

I wonde when the qalbum cover was put into the works, I mean, when did someone crystalize the idea to put that Eccentric Gallery on the cover?
There are some oinitial renderings by somebody in the CD booklet--it had a somewhat different concept earlier.
Of course, famous ideas can have a period of evolution.
Any info on the Sgt Pepper album art in a book?

Agree 100% with Perplexed!!!! I have the video "Beatles at Budokan", the sound is poor but the way James Paul play the bass in that concert blows your mind!!!!!

I found in the book''Les Beatles'' from Pierre Merle and Jacques Volcouve (1988)a sketch of early Pepper sign Paul McCartney with few ads from Peter Blake and I would like to have it on the forum.in reply to Perplexed and then we can chat about it, there are few strange feature in it....
I can't put image on the board, as I understand it I will have to find myself an URL, so I am working on it,I thought I could post image by Browse button as I do on other boards, it seems it doesn't work that way here
