I posted a link to this whole interview in the Lennon section, but look at this little bit, what is going on here?: So Brian died and then what happened is Paul started to take over? I don't know how much of this I want to put out, I'll tell you. I think Paul had an impression-he has it now, like a parent, that we should be thankful for what he did, for keeping the Beatles going. But when you look upon it objectively, he kept it going for his own sake. Not for my sake did Paul struggle. But Paul made an attempt to carry on as if Brian hadn't died. By saying, "Now, now, boys, we're going to make a record." And being the kind of person I am, I thought, "Well, you know, we're going to make a record, alright." So I went along, we went and made a record. And I suppose we made Pepper, I'm not sure. That was before. That was before Brian. Oh, I see. *huh??*

Forgive my asking but, what does this have to do with Clues?

Forgive my asking but, what does this have to do with Clues? John has a bit of a problem keeping his "Brians" straight... (read into it any way you wish)

You know . . .
I wouldn't be surpriosed if John had Yoko put him under some kind of hypnosis before conducting such a lenghty interview. Inserting into his mind the 'fact' there is only one Paul and only one Brian -- so that he doesn't endanger his life by misspeaking.

if john were to blurt out,
"IT'S ALL BLOODY BULLSH!T !! PAUL DIED IN SEPTEMBER OF '66 AND WE'VE BEEN FOOLING THE CRAP OUT OF EVERYONE EVER SINCE!"
what would have REALLY happened?
and what if he then said that the confession of the whole thing had been videotaped by him, george and ringo, and that there were lots of copies of that tape in secret, secure locations- ready to be seen by the whole world?
and what if ON that tape the 3 real beatles were heard to say, "if any of us dies or if all of us do, we want you to vote anti-establishment forever" ??
look, these intel agencies are dumb but they're not stupid. would they really assasinate all three beatles, and risk the undoing of everything they ever accomplished? i'd have called their bluff... i still want to know how these "death threats" would have been carried out, under real world conditions. would YOU want to be the one who ordered those assasinations, which in my opinion would enbolden the counter-culture movement to a total takeover of the country? it would be one of the biggest blunders for the illuminati, if not THE biggest. lennon should have thrown a little "instant karma" at those S.O.B. s....
there i go again, trying to make sense out of this senseless world. well, now that i got THAT off my chest...
merry christmas to you, 60IF, even to you, ian.

Ah, I see it now. I thought that was a little odd the first time I read it, but I thought I was just not understanding it.

"I think Paul had an impression-he has it now, like a parent, that we should be thankful for what he did, for keeping the Beatles going."
I just thought this was an interesting comment. In the context of where the interviewer was going, it meant that Paul took control of the band after Brian's death. From John's perspective, it might have meant Bill keeping the Beatles alive after Paul and Brian's death. I also agree about John not being able to keep the two Brians straight.
I wonder if it was ever hard for John badmouthing Bill like this in interviews, because he had to refer to him as "Paul." I'm sure the last thing John wanted to do was to disrespect the image of his deceased friend. Perhaps he had disassociated it enough in his mind so that while he thought of Bill as "Paul," he didn't think of him as "the Paul," and so it would be like being close to two people with the same name.

i'd have called their bluff
This is always the best strategy/ This is what Gennifer flowers did on live telvision (Hardball). It's hard to say why they didn't. How many live telvision interviews did John or George do after the breakup? Remember with people like Yoko lurking, they couldn't have even gotten a press conference off the ground before the heads rolled. And in this situtaion -- the Playboy interview -- they would've just killed the reporter as soon as he left the apartment and approached John with more threats.

Inserting into his mind the 'fact' there is only one Paul and only one Brian -- so that he doesn't endanger his life by misspeaking. Very interesting, this insight, Total. For in May Pang's book, she maintains John was all but ready to make the break with Yoko permanent when Yoko arranged a HYPNOSIS SESSION under the guise of John stopping smoking... When John returned to May's apartment after the hypnosis session, she noted he obviously behaved like an automatron...and the smoking continued. He bolted back to Yoko posthaste. And, furthermore, we all know how advanced (and sinister) and successful the MK ULTRA work was. Alledgedly, if 'they' could get your attention for even a second, they "had" you...

JoJo as always, clear as ever. John wasn't confused he had to be careful with what he said so when he mentioned paul(faul) was taking over and trying to be like brian was during the time around sgt pepper. well "officially" brian was alive through most of that album, so Lennon had to retract that. Because of course brian and paul had died already and slowly Faul took control. Sorry it makes sense to me and JOJO

Don't know if it's worth inserting here but I remember either hearing or reading that John did not like 'Hello Goodbye'. Never gave it much thought, but now....?
