Any thoughts on how it came to be there? Black roses can't be grown naturally, can they?

In MMT, while singing "Your Mother Should Know", Faul has a black rose while the others are wearing a red rose. Faul's silly explanation that that he wore a black one because they ran out of red ones doesn't hold water when you realise that black roses are gron naturally and have to be painted. So there must've been a specific effort to create a black rose.

It is possible the rosses (or carnations) were from some other production and just left behind (hence why the rose was black). But that doesn't make all that much sense...
