I can't see it. At all. I can only see him waiting. Really, what do you guys mean "I've never seen John look this sad before?" Even if he was sad, HE HAS A PERSONAL, PRIVATE LIFE SO YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT HE'S LIKE BEHIND THE SCENES OR WHAT FACES HE MAKES THERE! Ahh!

Umm...actually, it does, SK. Apparently John left the set of "How the War was Won" to join Paul & Brian in Paris on the 16th and then returned to the set on the 19th - according to "official" history anyway.

That chronolgy certainly would not account for his being at the airport on the 18th.
The photo is attributed to Agence France-Presse. . . I wonder if anyone in Europe could follow up on this and find who took the photo?

No, SK, the guy at John's left looks like Prince Charles. The guy on the right only has a superficial resemblance to Neil Aspinall and probably not even that if he had his mouth closed.

Yes. NOW we are digging deeper into the dirt, as it were. The 'official' records don't jibe with this photo and its significance. And, consider where this photo was culled from; an internet print site offering to sell matted copies up to 11"X14" large! On the surface, it's just a snap of John waiting in some airport...but this seemingly inconsequential pic could be the golden thread, that, if we pull on it gently, will unfold the whole lot. I find it curious that this particular seemingly unexciting photo would be offered up as high art prints. Perhaps....SOMEONE ELSE KNOWS ALREADY ABOUT HOW SIGNIFICANT THIS PHOTO IS?
Yeah, John DOES have a pained look to his face; the half smile does not hide it. Lennon was famous for letting us know his feelings without a word, just by his expression. He could tell the world without a sound...
So, the guy to John's LEFT kinda sorta resembles Prince Charles A BIT. But that is Neil accompanying John; perhaps to watch over him? To escort him to someplace secret, safe, or important? And...
WHY DID JOHN HAVE TO LEAVE THE FILM SET FOR THREE DAYS, AT THAT EXACT TIME? Film companies usually have STRICT rules about letting their actors take off for any amount of time while on-location filming, as every hour of production is so expensive...and ever hour of NON-PRODUCTION costs even MORE!
We're onto something here.....getting closer, and I don't mean 'Back to the Egg' -Ian

It looks like Neil Aspinall to me... who might *he* be talking to on *his* right?
To me it looks like John is seriously unhappy about having his photo taken. In Sept 1966 he had just come out of the phase where the Beatles were seen as happy chappies. It would have been hard for him to appear as anything but 'happy' in public. He hadn't reached the point where he didn't give a f**k like he was a year or so later. If he was waiting for news of Paul's death he would have certainly been seriously unhappy and not in the least glad to be recognized or photographed.
That fake half smile with pursed lips... like he wants to lash out, but can't.

September 18th would be exactly one week after Paul's dissapearance... at this point, he would't know that his friend was dead, would he? They were still awaiting word from the "kidnappers." Paul was found that Tuesday, so perhaps he was returning home to wait out news of Paul.

OK, I can't see the pic. But I don't need to.
John looks sad. I can garner that from your comments. He looks like he is in pain.
Isn't it still a GIANT leap to infer anything from that? How can you KNOW anything from someone's expression in a photo?
We could make a list of maybes:
Maybe he just stubbed his toe Maybe he found out that Brian had just been beat up Maybe Neil told him something that upset him Maybe he just didn't like the photographer taking his picture at that moment Maybe he just had a fight with a girlfriend
I can add 1001 more maybes here but it doesn't matter. The date doesn't matter either.
How can you make any connection between an expression on someone's face and the idea that Paul is dead?

Whatever Fixingahole.. I bumped this one because it's back to being in play as a topic of discussion, and of course that photo is long gone, unfortunately. Anyone know where I could find it?
