Did any of you catch Faul's concert in Red Square, shown last evening? I watched it up until 'I've just seen a face' then couldn't really take no more, lol.
I actually felt sorry for Faul. All his multiple facelifts have not stood the test of time very well, and he looks terrible.
I found it rather comical that he (or his organization) feels the need to surround himself with 20-year-olds in his band, decked out in contemporary alternate clothing, painfully obviously trying to draw in the youth market. It all just made Faul look more like a fossil.
I also noticed his voice...which isn't in that great of shape, considering his age, but with some critical listening (say, like if you closed your eyes and didn't watch) you might not even know it was suppose to be Paul McCartney singing.
Lastly, I noticed they had something painted on the drummer's bass drum....looked like the word 'LIVING; as in 'Paul is Living'. I also noticed when they did camera cuts away for various shots, they never missed an opportunity to insert some 'Paul is Live' item or message.
Did you also happen to notice how they positioned his microphone? Strange, way up in the air, half covering his face. It looked to me as if he was on tip-toes with just his eyes peeking out. Overall, it was kinda pathetic and a prime example of out-of-touch Faul still wishing he was contemporary.

"Get a clue?" Excuse me. The drum was partially obscured throughout what part of the show I could stand to waste time watching. I believe I said, "IT LOOKS LIKE the word 'living,' as it did because someone was always standing in front of it.
For my money, the original cast of 'BEATLEMANIA' did a much better job of Beatle impersonation than Faul did of a geriatric paul.

His forehead looked abnormally large and his eyes very close together. Maybe it seemed that way to me because I am getting used to seeing what the real Paul looked like. Faul's facial traits are very obvious to me now. Strange.

I watched like 10 minutes of the show. I made out the word "driving" on the drums aswell. I was sort of sad hearing Faul sing beatles song. They sounded so strained and sloppy.

He never really sang any Beatles songs good anyway. I always felt let down when I heard him sing any.
When I see other singers sing their own songs they always sing it the same way they did when younger. Not Faul. He never sing the songs the same.

I've seen countless singers/bands play songs differently live over the years. Robert Plant, Bob Dylan, Pink Floyd, The Stones, REM. How boring does it become singing the same songs the same way for 30-40 years? There's nothing wrong with re-interpreting old material, and it keeps it fresh. I'd also like to state that whoever provided the vocals for Helter Skelter, Hey Jude and the Wings over America tour had the best voice and technique of the entire 20th century. They also sound uncannily like the man who sang lead vocal on "She's a Woman" in 1964. Just an opinion.

"Which guy?" The guy I saw on TV in Red Square could barely squeal and croak a tune out. Faul circa 'wings over america' was in his prime, also there is a device which people such as Britney Spears uses, it's called AUTO-PITCH, and it sells for over $600, made by Antares. It keeps the pitch of mediocre vocalists in the same key as the song being played.
Faul has never impressed me very much. The only album I've ever bought of his was 'Band on the Run.'

Ian - ALWAYS PERFECT! - I've talk about that in the old "lost" forum. A direct example? TC-Helicon VoiceOne. Soon a release of "Yesterday" sung by...me with "a little help from that device"! Me, really better than Faul! (but I'm a singer...)

;D ;D Yea! You're right there with me every step of the way, Sun King! Excellent! I am happy you are aware of the electronic devices which can perform (and correct) just about anything vocally. The TC unit you mentioned is a high-dollar unit, if I'm not mistaken. It is VERY common for 'big stars' to use these 'cheating' devices. I don't need one (yet, lol) but I'm very audio/visually observant and the Faul I saw on the 'Red Square' show was raspy, rough, no projection of voice, and looked plain freaky. I will concede the bass guitar lines were solid and spot-on. Well, they should be after almost 40 years practice! I have to repeat myself because it was like a bizarre parody with the young, 20-something no-names in the back-up band, surrounding old Faul. Whom was he kidding? Also, a simple personal insight here: notice Faul never assembles an 'All-Star' band like Ringo does...the cream-of-the-crop veteran artists...that is because FAUL must be in complete, stifleing CONTROL and everything must revolve around HIM. I am still surprised he let poor Denny Laine warble "Go Now" as often as he did!!!!!!!

You have to admit that his solo work doesn't compare with the work that he did in the Beatles.....we all know why

i can admit to some of his solo work is better than some of his beatle work,,,cant generalize either way. unless you know and have followed his solo career its just not plausible for your critisms

TO KANE 1000 How pretentious of you to venture to assume the extent of my personal music collection. No insult intended, but you keep referring to PAUL in your posts. Paul was replaced by FAUL late 1966 -- you really should give the visual and AUDIO evidence a cursory look. If you consider fake PAUL solo works as the greatest show on earth, that is your opinion. Some people just don't have high standards of musicianship and they are happy that way! You are wrong, of course, in your assertion that a one-off album project (Run Devil Run) and a one-off Cavern show or limited shows could EVER be compared to RINGO'S ALL STARS, which has shown Ringo generously providing a forum for top-notch entertainers FOR MANY YEARS IN A ROW NOW. Not surprisingly, my PERSONAL OBSERVATION was severely misunderstood by you, by the looks of your rebuttal. Even the two one-off projects you cited REVOLVED COMPLETELY AROUND THE PERSON YOU MISTAKENLY AND CONTINUALLY REFER TO AS PAUL. Please be aware this is not a forum to debate the level of greatness assigned to the IMPOSTER of PAUL. If that is your tack, don't waste your energy. Faul is basking in the dim light of mediocrity. Faul has fossilized and, having the presence of mind to realize the "wings" era material hasn't aged well at all, he trots out the Beatles numbers, stroking and soothing the warm embers of nostalgia....while showing Beatles films on a huge screen above him as he plays. Better than a 'RUTLES' parody!
