I thought I would share my method of making photo comparisons. Other people may have faster and less tedious methods, in which case, please share them!
First, break out your ol' trusty copy of photoshop. Now open your two images, and make a new one, the size you want the final comparison to be. then copy and paste some of one picture to the blank one, and then copy and paste the other picture onto a different layer. Now close the two original pictures, leaving the comparison-to-be. Now, set the opacity on the top layer to 50% (there's a little slider at the top of the layers panel). Then, move and scale the top and bottom pictures, until the 3 triangulation points (centermost points of eyes, and bottom of nose) match up. You should notice that then the jaw and other facial features match, unless you aren't comparing 2 pictures of the same person . Now, you can make the animation. First, if you feel the need, in a 3rd layer, add some arrows or dots or lines or anything like that. Then, set the top picture layer opacity to 0%. Now go to File-->Save As, and save as (put the name here)0.gif, as a gif file. then, click OK in all of the dialog boxes. Now, set the opacity to 20%, and repeat with the name (put the name here)1.gif. Now do 40% and (name)2.gif, 60% and (name)3.gif, 80% and (name)4.gif, and 100% and (name)5.gif. Then, open your favorite gif animation program, and put in the list ...1.gif, ...2.gif, ...3.gif, ...4.gif, ...5.gif, ...4.gif, ...3.gif, and ...2.gif. Set ...1.gif and ...5.gif to 10 or 20 frames or so, and the rest to 5 or so. I don't remember the exact number of frames, but that's the basic method. This does an animation in 5 frames, but you can change it so its 10, or some fraction of 100. Share your methods!
EDIT: This is my old method, very out of date. Look at the bottom for my current method
