Well, this is just a wild guess, but to the world he was known as Paul McCartney, not James. Plus, he wasn't from Scotland (where this grave is), and there's no specific date on the headstone.
I think it's possible that this is indeed James Paul's grave. I would think that cremating him or burying him in an unmarked location would make for a more plausible solution, but perhaps this was their way of giving him some respect even in the face of Faul and the massive coverup that was to come.
Now... is Faul really from Scotland and not Canada? It would go a long way to explain his love affair with Scotland and why he lived there with Linda. It doesn't explain his arm patch on the Sgt. Pepper uniform (and in relation, his job as a police officer), so I'm not so sure, but I think there are some truths to be found here. It almost seems certain from clues and comments made over the years that Billy was with the police, but I've always felt he had more ties to Scotland than Canada anyway.

But...he can speak French fluently (James Paul couldn't). So, French Canadian was the conclusion. Also, the beginning of All You Need Is Love is the French National Anthem.

Oh, I know. There are several ties to Canada in the saga of William Shepperd, so I'm not ready to embrace this new theory quite yet. It does seem that Faul has some kind of emotional attachment to Scotland though... perhaps he has/had family there? Maybe this "William Shepperd" is a relative who was put into hiding with the rest of the Shepperd clan when it was decided that Billy would remain as "Paul."
I know, I know, I'm just guessing, and there might not be anything to these new ideas.

Interestingly, I can't open the page that MrKite linked to about the genealogy of the disappearing Shepherds. Anyone else have that problem?

Ok i'm with JakesBrie on this one people.
Although i thank Mr. Kite for all the hard work he has put in to this board i am a real skeptic when it comes to (for me anyway) a stranger telling me some information of which i have no idea as to its authenticity.
No offence meant Mr. Kite but although a fascinating read so far, one in to which i cannot put any trust. I only deal with the hard evidence.

If that was for my benefit Eggman, thank you ;D ;D
However i think you may have missed (or i didn't state clearly enough) my point.
Yes this is a photo of a grave and if it exists (remember we do not know it exists, we are taking someone's word for it) it is indeed very convincing.
However of all people, us followers of 60IF should be the ones most likely to suspect photographs we are presnted with.
Doctored photographs? sound familiar?
Again Mr. Kite, no offence at all, not suggesting you are trying to decieve anyone, just cynical of new evidence.

it's from a masonic cemetary, says the bottom of the picture.
but is it correct that Gargrave lies in Scotland? I can't seem to google anything about it. there is, however, a Gargrave in North Yorkshire, (north) England.

OK, folks, here we go! I was able to corroborate something! According to papers from [my friend], William married a Gladys Margaret Thwaite in 1956 in Gargrave, Scotland. They had three children - Sylvia, Helen, and Robert. All of them "vanished" (died?) - dates unknown. Can anyone get into this site? I can't. Well, here it is! Please bear in mind, I am simply passing on info that I have received. Supposedly, this gravesite is not listed in the Gargrave Masonic Cemetery registry of graves, I do know I've never seen a headstone with a date like that on it. Spanky, since you are in Scotland, would it be possible for you to search the records of Gargrave or surrounding counties for people name James McCartney. Also, do you know how close this is to Faul's place in Scotland? Brie

As far as where Gargrave is, I'm only passing on what was given to me. But you are correct: I can't find a "Gragrave, Scotland" either. I would presume that it is either small enough not to warrant a "map dot," or the error is [my friend]'s and it is the site in Yorkshire. I personally don't know enough about all the attendant facts and rumors that go with PID. I do know that [my friend] made a living as a respected (until near the end) reporter/editor. He knew how to investigate and talk others into talking. He also had many media contacts both here and abroad. Like I've said, he was painted as quite the schizophrenic by colleagues (once his "obsession began); but to me, his "weirdness" only manifested in relation to PID. If PID is true, then he wasn't nuts at all. As far as the genealogical page, it worked yesterday - I know TotalInformation saw it. Today (just one day later), it is GONE! I can't even find it using numerous search terms I remember from the page. Definitely weird - I wonder if we hit a nerve with someone (bear in mind, I could only get the page to show up through a cached search to begin with). From memory: It said that a William Shepherd (est. birth 1932) married someone with the last name of Thwaite in 1956 and had three children: Helen, Sylvia, and Robert. All either died unknown, or it is unknown whether they are alive or dead. The info I got says that they "vanished" from Gargrave registries by fall of 1967. The last child, Robert, was born in July of 1967. The disappearance of the page has me quite baffled ... and a little disturbed, if I may say so! Edited for grammar

Perhaps there was one parent of Mr. Sheppard in Scotland, and one in Canada. Perhaps he grew up between the two places (military life could take people back and forth) and wound up in Toronto for a while as a policeman. My folks were back and forth to the middle east--only stopping when the nuisance that was me came along!!!!! Whoops, I meant naissance! (French corruption for "birthing') tee hee)

Few weeks ago , in Montreal, Quebec ,Canada, a radio man call, live, on the phone Faul. The radioman took the voice of the Prime Minister Jean Chrétien , and he was able to talk with Faul, easily. The guy was talking in english and in french as does Jean Chrétien But Faul didn't say a word(maybe one) in french If this Faul lived in Toronto, in the sixties , I presume that It was getting sick about the nightmare of the french canadian who wants their independance. The english speaking persons in Ontario didn't like us at all,So to speak french for them was a disgrace. And the OPD , when they were seeing a car with a license plate from Quebec, were our nightmare,

This has recently been posted in the guests section: The letters on the tombstone are "F. L. T." It is a Latin phrase, indicative of certain masonic rituals. My Latin is nowhere near perfect, but this is pretty close, if not exactly, what it stands for: "Fortuna Laudum Temporis." The translation (as far as I know): "With luck, we shall have the glory of old." I have no doubt as to the meaning, and the phrase is only used in very specific circumstances.

The year before the born of Napoleon.

Eggy, if you can "blow the picture up," you'll see it's definitely "F.L.T." I had to shrink the .jpg to get it to upload, so it's kind of difficult to see clearly.
